I will spare you from the boring third person bio that dives into all my interests and high school sports accomplishments. I will keep it simple, open and honest. I am from Maryland, went to Salisbury University and graduated with a degree in Physical Education. I taught high school PE for four years then went on to open a CrossFit gym in San Diego, CA in 2009. In 2012 I moved back to my home town and decided there is nothing better than being a gym owner. CrossFit Federal Hill was born 6 months later.
The cliche answer of “I love what I do” is the best way I can sum up how I feel about CrossFit. It is said by many, but truly carried out by few. I consider myself one of the lucky ones.
Making a difference in fitness, correcting form, preventing injuries, and creating athletic monsters is all part of the fun, but for me it does not matter if you are good, bad, or the best in the world. It is about enabling people to break down barriers that were impossible five minutes before class or two months before joining. I love looking at someone’s face when they pick up a load that they never thought was possible or climb a rope they thought was too high. Doing a physically impossible tasks together creates a bond and community that can not be duplicated.
I believe this warehouse is much more than a place to improve fitness. Our goal is to create friendships, help people grow and set up an environment that is welcoming, but challenging physically and mentally.

Everyone that walks into a CrossFit box for the first time has a different goal. Some want to become fire breathers and excel in competition, some just want to get into better “shape”, and others may be wondering how their friend talked them into this. The beauty of CrossFit is that it is welcoming for people of all different abilities. At CrossFit Federal Hill we strive to bring out the best in each individual that walks through the door and help you achieve your fitness.
When I found CrossFit, it opened my eyes to what it really means to be fit, beyond my old routine of bicep curls and bench press. Fitness no longer ends the second I drop the barbell, but is an integral part of my daily life from how I fuel my body to my out of box activities.
At CrossFit Federal Hill you will not only be joining a CrossFit box, but joining a close-knit community that will help you achieve a fitness level you never thought was possible.

I love CFH. I show up a few times a week to do what I love with a group of awesome people, and it just happens to make me better at everything else I love to do.
I started CrossFit to stay in shape for snowboarding in the off season, but soon found that it was much more than just a summer conditioning program. As a naturally un-athletic person with very little competitive-sport background, it was a relief to find something that would reward an average sized,
exceedingly mediocre athlete.
The first few years I did it, it was alone at a regular gym. It often times led to loud steel plates being dropped on max effort lifts, weights rattling off the squat rack during kipping pull-ups, and very little room to do handstand push-ups without kicking into a mirror. I consider myself lucky to now be a part of the CFH family, not only because of the awesome facility and fancy equipment, but because of the people. It makes what I do so much more satisfying when the athletes we coach are willing to put in the dedication and hard work needed to build towards reaching their genetic potential. Whether the end goal is just “being a little more active”, training to compete at any level, or anything in between, the community at CFH is a huge source of support.
I was born and raised in Howard County, went to high school in Baltimore, then moved out to Colorado for college. Shortly after graduation I found out the hard way how quickly you can lose physical capacity by sitting at a desk for 9 hours a day. Outside of coaching and training (and that “job” thing I do Monday through Friday 9-6) I try to be outside as much as possible. I prefer to mountain bike, snowboard, try to fix my motorcycle, or sleep. I don’t really like long walks on the beach or candle lit dinners, I’d really much rather a trail run and grilled chicken in tupperware.

I was born and raised in the great state of MD, then I ventured to North Carolina to attend Elon University to pursue a
degree in International Relations. I lived and worked in Guatemala during a good portion of college which is where my love of travel was discovered. I moved to Peru directly after graduating to work as a country coordinator for a non-profit before moving to Arizona to work as a social worker. I came back to MD to attend Hopkins to get my degree in Nursing. In 2012, I moved out to San Diego where I discovered CrossFit. I have always been in to health, fitness and running, but CrossFit has change my view on everything fitness.
Like most, before I started I had the question of “What is CrossFit?” I now know that is an impossible thing to describe, but I will do my best right here in my bio. Many of us can recite the more popular lines: “highly variable, functional movements”, “increased work capacity across broad time, and modal domains” or “the sport of fitness.” But, that does not do CrossFit justice. A more appropriate question to ask is: Why CrossFit? It is a lifestyle; it is a community of people that encourages each other, finishes together, and constantly surpasses self-made expectations and boundaries.
For me, helping people create confidence by becoming stronger, more capable individuals is what I love about coaching at CrossFit Federal Hill. Teaching health and well-being by increasing our ability to perform inside the gym in order to live a better quality of life outside of the gym, is really what it is all about. I am a Registered Nurse by day, but truly love working with people in the gym to find their optimal health. Coaching at CrossFit Federal Hill CrossFit, I see people literally transform, physically, emotionally, and mentally- it is pretty incredible. I like to pay special attention to technique and safety when moving, so each athlete can find his/her full potential. Whether you work out at 5:30am or 7:30pm, it really is the best part of the day because you always leave feeling better than when you walked in! The best way to find out “What CrossFit is?” JUST TRY IT!

I spent the first 28 years of my life as a South Floridian. I studied Elementary Education at Florida State University and School Counseling at Florida Atlantic University. I’ve gone from being a young ballerina, to a high school cheerleader, to a marathon runner. When I had experienced all that I could
in Florida, I decided to make a change. I ended up in Baltimore and, along with all of the riches this change has brought me, I began doing CrossFit. What started as trying out a class or two with my roommate, turned into becoming a coach and making it a lifestyle.
CrossFit is the first form of exercise that I’ve ever looked forward to ahead of time, loved while I was doing it, and talked about afterwards. It has put me in the best shape of my life and given me the self-confidence that most have a hard time finding. As a coach, it is my goal to help others achieve this same level of accomplishment. I believe that one of CrossFit’s greatest attributes is that it allows all people of different ages, shapes, genders, and abilities to accomplish their personal best. Even though one athlete may not be throwing up the same weight as the athlete standing next to them, everyone is working to their best ability. One person’s PR is not going to be the same as another
person’s PR; but we all still get to celebrate being the best we can be.
For those of you that have never done CrossFit, are scared, intimidated, don’t think you’re in good
enough shape, whatever it is that is holding you back, all I can say is ‘give it a shot.’ Each and every
athlete at our gym came in scared and intimidated and no one is ever in ‘good enough shape.’ That’s why you should try it out. Trust the coaches. The programming. And, most importantly, trust yourself. You never know, you may just make some great friends along the way!

My entry into CrossFit started in an attempt to get into what my coach at the time called ‘rugby shape.’ Hours at the gym lifting and running sprints was still not cutting it on the pitch. When a former rugby mate opened her own box our team was welcomed into a joint partnership, which had clear cut results for myself, as well as other teammates. I attribute much of our success that year to the transition to those constantly varied, high intensity functional movements that CrossFit subscribes by. In addition to gaining strength both on and off the pitch, CrossFit has forged many cherished friendships and memories for me both at my former gym in Philadelphia and now at CrossFit Federal Hill. The community here is so open, encouraging and positive and I am proud to be a coach and member of CFH.
When I’m not coaching or training at CFH, my daytime gig is as a biomedical scientist (yes, that’s a real job) at Johns Hopkins. I love teaching and the analytical aspect of my job. It helps me to train future scientists and clinicians. Part of my goal as a coach is
to use these skills to help our athletes understand the mechanics and rationale of the movements in an effort to improve their performance and reduce injuries. Thus far, this has been one of the most rewarding aspects of coaching.
When I moved to Baltimore I never imagined that I could make the gains and friendships that I have here at CFH. The excellent coaches and programming here have helped me to become a better athlete, and have allowed me to share something that I am very passionate about with others. CrossFit is about becoming our best selves through fitness, confidence and community and it is our job as coaches to help every athlete on this journey.

I grew up as an athlete, from playing multiple sports in high school to playing lacrosse & rowing on the crew team at Miami University in Ohio. After college, I wasn’t quite sure how to stay in shape without a team. My brother, who was in the Air Force Special Operations, had found CrossFit and told me it was something I had to try. I gave it a shot in 2008 & haven’t looked back since.
Since beginning CrossFit I have been fortunate enough to compete at the Northwest Regionals five times – twice as an individual in 2009 (29th) & 2010 (24th), and three times with my affiliate team (CrossFit Lake Oswego) in 2011 (9th), 2012 (27th), and 2013 (10th). In 2010 I received my Level One, Nutrition, & Mobility certifications.
The camaraderie you find in CrossFit is unrivaled to anything else I have experienced. The community you become a part of and the friendships you make last a lifetime and are by far my favorite part of CrossFit. CrossFit Federal Hill is an amazing community & has been one of the best support systems I have had since moving to the East Coast last year.
CrossFit will challenge you – both physically & mentally, and it will give you some of the most rewarding results you will ever experience. I love the confidence that comes with being able to move your body, become faster & stronger, & the smile on someone’s face when they have accomplished something they never thought they could. I also love the frustration, as it signifies you are working towards becoming greater and when you achieve that next accomplishment, how great the success is.
I absolutely love CrossFit & fully believe it is the best way to stay in shape for anything life throws at you. I am so excited to be able to coach & bring my passion to the athletes that come into the doors of CFH!

CrossFit, the sport of fitness, first caught my attention when I realized my daily workouts in the traditional gym were lacking the type of results I wanted. I grew up playing all kinds of sports; any team sport imaginable, racing motocross, competing in triathlons, you name it. I thought I was in amazing shape then I heard of this crazy thing called CrossFit. I still remember the feeling after my first attempt at a CrossFit WOD and it was not pretty! That was when I learned what this sport is capable of. With one WOD I knew CrossFit would show me I could achieve things I thought my body was not previously capable of doing.
My favorite part about CrossFit is the fact that it is a great fitness program for everyone, from the completely unfit to the elitist athlete. CrossFit is scalable for all ages and physical conditions. All it takes is the willingness to give it a try, and once you do, you’ll gain a new respect for what your body can do. Whether it’s getting that one unassisted pull-up or snatching a weight you thought impossible, all the coaches at CFH will work to help you reach that goal.
The opportunity to work with people through CrossFit is very rewarding. In the box all you need is the willingness to learn and the physical boundaries you thought existed will be a thing of the past. The coaches, the community, and the box will provide an environment that will make it easy to improve not only your fitness but also your life!

Born and raised in Maryland, I grew up playing team sports like soccer, lacrosse, and cross country (if you wanna call that a sport) and adventure sports like snowboarding, wake boarding, and mountain biking. I then moved to Southern Florida to wakeboard for the college team, we traveled around the state to find every lake we could to ride on. When a whole year went by and the seasons never changed I began to miss the mountains so I transferred schools to Frostburg State University where I could snowboard and mountain bike on a daily basis. After college, when everyone was looking for jobs to make a bunch of money and wear a suit to work everyday, I thought, “who would want to do that”, so I became a fireman in Baltimore city, where I can save damsels in distress aka the fine citizens of Baltimore city. This primarily covered my adrenaline needs… then I found CrossFit!
CrossFit was the ultimate rush for me. Fast, Heavy weights, Competition, everything about it was perfect. I became hooked and eventually decided to become a coach to help others get good at what I loved to do (Or so that I could have a key to the gym so I can workout as much as I wanted, whenever I wanted). Either way, I love the competitive side of CrossFit and if you too want to compete, get faster, and get stronger, come to Crossfit Federal Hill and I’ll give you all the knowledge I have.

I grew up playing a lot of team sports; baseball, volleyball (I know, I’m short. I was the setter), and lacrosse. When I went to college I played ultimate Frisbee for a while, but then fell into a more sedentary lifestyle. After I graduated I decided to get back in shape and found myself doing the typical routine of 20 minutes on the elliptical and then some strength training. I felt like I was doing pretty well for myself, especially when looking at how out of shape my high school friends had become. I then got roped into trying out CrossFit by a friend who didn’t want to try it alone. To say that my eyes were opened is a bit of an understatement.
Yet getting into the best shape of your life is really only a part of what CrossFit is. The starkest contrast in going to the gym now compared to before is the community. I would go to the gym with my headphones in and not speak a word to anyone. Now the gym is a place to connect with others. We discuss not only health, but family and other interests. The hour at the gym quickly became the favorite part of my day.
After a year and a half of CrossFitting I decided to get my Level 1 certification in January of 2012. I found that I wanted to share my enthusiasm and knowledge with the community that I had become a member of. I know that CrossFit has changed my life for the better and I get a thrill from doing the same for others.
